Who is he?

Varg Vikernes, legally Louis Cachet (born Kristian Larssøn Vikernes), also known as Thulean Perspective and a former member of Norwegian metal band Burzum, is an infamous violent Norwegian white supremacist who lives in Salon-la-Tour, France with his fellow white supremacist wife Marie Cachet.

Criminal Charges and Neo-Nazism

Vikernes has set fire to churches and committed murder. He is a neo-Nazi who now ‘preaches’, so to speak, his brand of antisemitic, racist paganism to strangers online. He commonly uses Lord of the Rings terminology to refer to religious/ethnic groups he does not like, a dogwhistle trend which seems to not be catching on with other neo-Nazis. He proudly calls himself a bigot. If that still isn’t enough, here’s him touting typical neo-Nazi Aryan blonde-blue-eyes bullshit. Here’s some more Aryan bullshit and insane response to Neanderthals.

Xenophobia, Racism, Antisemitism and Islamophobia

As Vikernes is a neo-Nazi, his beliefs are generally predictably abhorrent and hateful. His islamophobia and antisemitism stem from his dislike of those he deems ‘immigrants’. This is the base of his reasoning for why he thinks pagan religions are superior, because they’re somehow more racially pure or whatever (which is not true). He also seems to be newly obsessed with Indigenous people because he wrongfully equates his xenophobia with anticolonialism. Here he is using the antisemitic ‘echo’ dogwhistle. Here’s the disgraced former metalhead quoting the famous antisemite H.L. Mencken.(1) Here he is ahistorically claiming that Jewish and Christian people (as if that was a coalition ever in history — antisemitism is old) murdered pagans.

More on his brand of fascist fuckery. A metalhead criticism of him here.

Here he is using racial slurs and using the Nazi phrase “blood and soil” and strangely claiming he is not white, despite advocating for white supremacy constantly. His blog/website subheader is “Blood and Soil” which is both insanely cringeworthy and also surprisingly direct. More on the history of World War II Nazi usage of “Blood and Soil” here.

Vikernes implies that African-descended people are somehow more biologically suited for servitude, which is obviously an insanely racist and unfounded take. He has a strange conspiracy theory about the Cheddar Man.

Homophobia and Transphobia

He presents an ahistorical and overall bigoted response to mythology as well as a staunch advocate of the common Christian idea that homosexuality is immoral.

Anti-Masker

This hardly needs much explanation. It’s hard to name anyone else as more of a danger to society, and to the pagan community at large.

Notes

(1). H.L. Mencken is popular among the far-right. There is an H.L. Mencken club which a senior researcher at the SPLC describes as “a kinder, gentler [Ku Klux] Klan.”
